So this makes me think of something that I am not certain has been brought up yet.
Does anyone here remember the phrase, "the age of accountability"?
In other words, if parents die at Armageddon, they are no doubt responsible for their toddlers murder (this only makes sense). However, there is an age of accountability where you can no longer "get in" on your parents good name like a toddler would.
Is this still the current teaching? Is AM3 suggesting that outside of being a toddler, lets say maybe 6 and up, that you are accountable before God?

After 2 years my parents make contact. The end result is that I promise them to cryogenically preserve ONLY their heads
by paulmolark init has been 2 and a half years since my departure from the religion.
i was told by my parents from the start that i would never speak to them until i returned to jehovah dog.
a few months later they told people they hoped i died before the end came, then all of this culminating in them telling my inactive / fading sister that they don't consider me a child anymore and they have given me up to satan.

Wow Paul,
I sympathize with this and understand why others are saying to try to have a lighter touch. But honestly....what she has said to you repeatedly is just terrible.
In the end we are all responsible for our actions. I read your thoughts and what she said and wondered to myself what i would have said in your case. One I wish i would do, the other I would be tempted to do.
1) Mom why are you calling me? Is it to try to get me to see that my own mother shunningme, shunning her grandchildren, showing zero love an affection, abusing her children as youngsters, and telling her grandchildren that they will die and are doing things God hates when they were talking about extra curricular activities......is proof that i should come back to the religion of my youth? You are insane, and not welcome around my children. Jehovah has already removed your "parental love" from your heart, as I certainly can't remember the last time I or anyone in my family experienced it. Kick rocks mom.
2) click* (ring, ring).........click x 2*.
Paul my mother once (not directly), suggested....that I could be leading my children to death due to my actions. I already know this is what was taught....I gave a talk about it once. So I told her.......you get that one. One. You ever suggest to me that i am killing my children directly or indirectly, and that is it. You know in your heart that isn't true. I won't speak of this again and will forgive you.....this time.

Do you consider this site Godly or Ungodly
by Truthexplorer inover the years, i have seen a change in heart with the country i grew up in and the general view of what they perceive as how everyone should view things in relation to morality.
a strictly religious country for centuries now forever changed within a short number of years.
i have also seen the viewpoint on this site gradually change in many ways.

The old one and done post eh? Why post at all?
This site isn't about believing or not believing. Its about being allowed to believe as you see fit. that journey takes different people different places, but I had enough of a religion that was dogmatic in its viewpoint thank you very much. In the real world, it is perfectly reasonable to have a spirited discussion about a topic in which you may disagree with the person with another viewpoint......and its perfectly ok. In fact even beneficial.
Personally I think your approach is in itself very "JW". Its the ole "this world is so bad" mantra. The world is not that bad. The people that have given up on it, do it the largest disservice.

This is the easiest way i have found to remember it, AND to blow it up simultaneously and accurately. I am not sure what Fred Franz has to do with this specifically so I would refrain from using names.
If someone was old enough to partake in 1914, that is the first part of this generation. If someone in modern times was old enough to partake with people from the first group, they are an extension of that group (they overlap with it).
The WT has said the end will come before all these ones pass away.
So......one need simply find the youngest member of the anointed that was alive and partaking while someone who partook in 1914 was still alive (so not necessarily the youngest anointed person out there), and figure out how long they will probably live to get an expiration date on "this ole system of things".
This is exactly what is taught by JW's currently without any hyperbole or stretching of imagination.
Its like shooting fish in a barrel.

I know everyone here is only living in the past because none of these lists have Gary Clark Jr on them, and he is the best young guitarist in a generation.

So says Kirsten Gillibrad the senator from New York. It was regarding rape at college campus, and how it tends to be handled "internally" and "with bias".
I watched this unfold on an episode of VICE on HBO from this weekend. The similarities were striking. Colleges attempt to keep these things off the record in order not to harm their public image. As a result a sort of culture of blame and looking the other way develops until the few have the courage to speak out and become many.
Its an interesting episode I would highly recommend.
One of the main differences which speaks terribly to our former faith, is that on campus there have been proven hoaxes, and the defense of consent can and is used. However, with molestation there is no consent defense. Nor can confession be overlooked.
The senator used the term "the culture of benign neglect". With jehovahs Witnesses it has been an active neglect.

Everything seems to be changing... why not birthdays?
by StarTrekAngel inif we look at all doctrines, we see an overall effort to conserve unity and control.
- assuming most birthdays, if allowed, would probably be oriented to children, then that means 40 celebrations per year.
so all in all, this give a total potential attendance to a birthday of 30 families (120 attendance / 4 family members).

LQ...are you SURE you cannot be disfellowshipped for celebrating your or your childs birthday? I would beg to differ.
